That's a current-model (1989 onward) long-wheelbase Hiace (LH100-series), almost certainly a 2.4 gas. Upspec Japanese-market ones have no fold-down center front eat, but a hot & cold box instead. I just do not know why they are not using extralong-wheelbase Hiaces for camper conversions; these are all high-roof, so poptop not needed, and there's an extra foot or so in length. They are not quite as wide as a Vanagon, because Japanese registration for cars over 1.690 meters is prohibitive. It's odd that Toyota never made a wide-body version, the way they did with the Estima (Previa) MPV and Dyna truck. -- Andrew Grebneff Dunedin New Zealand Fossil preparator <andrew.grebneff@stonebow.otago.ac.nz> Seashell, Macintosh, VW/Toyota van nut HUMANITY: THE ULTIMATE VON NEUMANN MACHINE DEMOCRACY: RULE BY THE LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR |
