There are several qualified repair shops here and spare parts are no problem. I regularly talk to Vanagon owners and most love 'em. Some seem to think they're nothing more that an enclosed construction truck, and a few are really beat up and have one wheel in the crusher. Overall, I just think the OP is a disgruntled owner with unreasonable expectations. Chances are he'll feel the same way after he's used up his next vehicle.
