Not always on cast parts. The cast parts in some cases are cast with the parts makers mark and the OEM mark on them or maybe more. Brake cylinders and master cylinders are two of the best examples. The same company, for instance ATE will cast the VW and their own label on them. As the open market part the VW is ground off, if VW sold the VW is left on. Rebuilders supposedly are supposed to grind off all markings when rebuilt. Unless rebuilt by the brand on them. I found that out when I called some parts casters about the case because I had an ATE and a VW master cylinder both brand new sitting on the counter and realized each had a ground off marking where the others brand was. Grabbed a brand new master cylinder for a ford off of the shelf and went next door to the ford warehouse. He pulled his down and sure enough we had opposing ground off spots. On this casting there were actually three spots with two ground off. Turns out this part would have had Mazda, ford, and the supplier marks on it before the grinding. The part that has always bothered me though is the part where rebuilders are supposed to remove all brand markings.
