The original engine intended for the Beetle was a 2-stroke... fortunately Porsche saw sense in time! The Beetle was an entirely original design, and a brilliant one.

In fact the T3 engine IS a modified Type 1, adapted for watercooling; NOt a Type 4. The crank is interchangable with a Type 1.

Vanagon's ain't totally junk. The body is a good one, and so is the suspension. And that is the main thing. It's the electrics & mechanicals which suck... and you can change all of these. -- Andrew Grebneff Dunedin New Zealand Fossil preparator <andrew.grebneff@stonebow.otago.ac.nz> Seashell, Macintosh, VW/Toyota van nut
