Really? I was under the impression that the 1.9 and 2.1 wasserboxers were derived from the same aluminum-cased 2.0 air cooled engine that preceded them. Didn't the 2.0l "pancake" aircooled originally come from the Type 4? Can't say as I see how the wasserboxer bears a greater resemblance to the Type 1 engine, what with it actually having an oil filter and not having a pile of parts stacked vertically above the intake manifold. The crankshaft doesn't determine the engine type, does it?
