I thought that there was a place in Rockville, but they were really busy. You might try Mark I VW (not a dealer) up north of Frederick. He's definitely knowledgable on VWs and Vanagons. I used to go to Stohlman VW (Dealer) in Tyson's, but they never have any parts on hand, hence repairs always take several days, you have schedule weeks in advance, and in general expensive.

More recently I've used Chandler & Sons in Sterling Virginia. Not really convienent for you, but knowledgable car folks (any cars, not just Vanagons)
