Aircooled to Subaru Water Cooled. Had to add a cooling system to the van at the same time. Actually I built the cooling system several weeks before I did the engine pull so that when I did the engine side I was on down for the day. I had already also test standed the engine and harness so it was basically just an engine swap like done with a water boxer. The only hard parts were that I new that when I put in the engine I was going to have problems with the firewall. The transmissions for the waterboxer and aircooled sit about 2 inches different at the engine mounting surface. So I mounted to the transmission and then would winch up a little to check lower and cut some firewall and repeat until I had a fit. With a Waterboxer you donΉt have that problem. There is a special air intake built to avoid the cutting on the aircooled but I am cheap.
