I used a teflon lube gel on mine when I "rebuilt" it. My boss uses it on safe locks. It's a non-petroleum, tasteless, odorless, essentially inert lube about the consistency and color of vaseline. It never "dries out"-- we've opened a safe lock 8 years later in one case and it looked and felt exactly the same as new. Its only weak point, a tendency to collect crud in a dusty environment, is certainly no worse than the OEM grease. It's actually available from Radio Shack as "Lube Gel" (64-2326) in a 3oz tube. I'll try to find out where we normally get it too.
