Hopefully you can still open the hatch, if not, you may need to remove the inside trim in order to release the hatch. Once the hatch is open, remove the 3 allen head bolts (6mm I think) on the bottom of the hatch and everything comes apart. On hatches with flat buttons (84 and up?) you only need to remove the 1 allen head bolt to remove the entire lock assembly. I think early Vanagons you need to remove all 3. No big deal, less than a minute either way... |
