Subject: Another compression question
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed

I had the local VW dealer do a compression test on my 88 2.1 litre... I'm not sure the results are reassuring. I don't have the exact numbers. I actually took the read-out to work today intending to send this message from there. Of course, I'm home, and left the darned thing at work.

As I recall, most cylinders registered around 110 to 118 or 119 PSI. One was in the 122 to 125 range.

The engine has 206k Km on the odometer. Is this a sign from the VW gods that that engine is not in the best of health?

I'd like the wisdom of the list as I had intended to drive from here, Sudbury, Ontario; to Seattle WA, via the U.S. and back through Canada. < about 6 or 8k Km >

The engine has always treated me decently... it's just everything else on the camper that's cost me my life's savings. :-)

Can I trust this motor ? Will it get me thorough another season ?

Unlike our knowledgeable friend from Quebec, Ben, I don't carry a complete garage under the rear seat! So getting stuck in "middle of the state" South Dakota is not an option.

Any and all thoughts are welcome

Thanks.

Barry
