Benny, I ain't out to tell you your business, but it sounds to me like you're giving yourself away. I saw the '$25/hr' on your site and thought it must be a typo. The local VW shop gets $85/hr and there isn't a shop I've seen recently that doesn't get $65/hr- we're out in the middle of nowhere and not near a major city (where the prices seem to be the same or higher, at least in this part of the world).

As a self-employed small business owner myself, I can't see how you can actually be making a living on that rate (never mind investing in your business, etc). Additionally, the kind of attention to detail, etc. that you seem to put into your work often commands a premium. Are your rates common where you are?

The reason I asked, basically is that guessing at how long it took to overhaul that engine in hours x common labor rates, I figured the guy would have been able to get at least a fresh rebuild, probably minus installation. You saved him a bundle.

Guess if I ever decide to have a rebuild done and not do it myself, I oughta take a 'business trip' up your way and have you do it- between the your rates, the exchange rate and the tax write-off I might actually make money on the deal. : )
