try this for a answer. get the bentley out and go to the engine section. look up the the difference between the extremes for the ring and cylinder tolerances. there is a big distance there, i forget what it is exactly. also during that brief run it you lube the rings a bit helping seal things up. there are explosions happening in there so the rings/piston/sleeves heat up pretty fast, thus expanding.
