I've recently been doing a lot of industrial service work at a metal recycling yard owned by my friends. I end up driving over their scales often. I've been thnking about driving the old 1980 Westy over it just to see how heavy it it. Every time I drive it it feels so light compared to the other Vanagons I drive. I know the 87 Vanagon was 4850 and my helper claimed it went down 250 when I got out. That couln't be right. Musta been 230 with all the clothes and overshoes caked w/ mud. that was an 87 gl full interior less middle seat plus probably 800 lb ladders, tools and wire: 4600-800= 3800. Very little gas (a little low on anti freeze too. :>) Why do we care about fron axle/ rear axle weights? Not to be argumentative, just enlighten me! Al Brase
