Based on these numbers, a fully-laden Vanagon would certainly weigh more
than a fully-laden Audi 5000, because it can hold a lot more cargo.  No
surprise there. (Also, an '85 or later Vanagon would probably weigh a good
100 lbs more than an '84, due to the additional weight of the air
conditioning and power steering components.)
