Paul,

I converted my '82 Westfalia to PS in '99.

It all bolts in easily . The gas tank needs to be removed in order for the front sections to install.

While the tank is out you can inspect it, clean it, or replace it if needed. You will also be able to lube the shift rod bushing.

Replace the tank vent line hoses with longer ones so you can connect it up before putting the tank back up.

You don't have to change the spindles.

You also need to have the shorter power steering shaft that goes between the steering gear and the rack. The manual shaft is too long.
