Not on a vanagon yet but on a jetta that uses the same switch.  There are a
lot of strange problems related to the light switches.  Even a 94 jetta I
had for several years had light problems I traced back to the light switch.
On that one the head lights would go out after running for a while.  Also a
very hot light switch.
