I am surprised that you would have the oil light on at idle without the oil pressure warning buzzer sounding at near 2,500 rpm. Sounds like the high pressure switch was disabled by shorting its wire to ground.

Either oil pressure warning signal could be due to a malfunction, but since it is only giving a warning after a high speed run, my guess is something is really wrong. The cause is either the engine bearings and/or oil pump is getting tired causing low oil pressure after the oil gets hot. It is possible that the oil is getting too hot due to a cooling system problem such as a bad oil cooler or poor water flow to it. If the oil level is too high, this will cause excessive heating and aeration of the oil also causing it to get too thin. Remember, the top mark on the dip stick is not the full mark. It is the maximum do not ever exceed no matter what mark. Oil temp and pressure gauges show the best oil level is from the lower mark to ~half way.

Hi All,

The van is running! Now the oil light comes on when I come off the freeway from 70 mph after a 25 mile trip. I can rev the engine up and the light goes off. Then after a minute or so of slow driving I can let it idle with out the light going off. This happened when I used that cheap Wal-Mart oil. I changed it and the problem went away. This time I have Castrol 20-50 in it with a Phram filter. I just got a few filter in from Bus Depot and will be changing them our. The question is why is the oil light going off in the first place? Oil too thick and getting stuck up in the engine or too thin because it get too hot or is there something else?????

TIA

Jere
