> I think the reason people wanted to get rid of the >fiberglass covers is the misconception that they were plastic. A plastic >cover would be a very BAD idea... What misconception? Fiberglass is made using polyester or epoxy resins. When set these resins ARE plastics. The presence of glass (or carbon) fibers is irrelevant. To the best of my knowledge polyester won't melt with heat (not all plastics melt!), but it sure does burn. Epoxy almost certainly will melt, or at least soften and droop. -- Andrew Grebneff Dunedin New Zealand Fossil preparator <andrew.grebneff@stonebow.otago.ac.nz> Seashell, Macintosh, VW/Toyota van nut HUMANITY: THE ULTIMATE VON NEUMANN MACHINE DEMOCRACY: RULE BY THE LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR |
