Hi Everyone, I apologise in advance as this query is not directly to do with VWs however since all of you with Westys & similar campers have canvas sides to the pop top, perhaps you can advise... I am looking for suggestions as to an effective waterproofing agent for canvas. While brand names are welcome, the fact that I am on the other side of the world to most of you means that such names may not mean much here so what the most effective modern treatments are is I guess what I'm primarily after. eg. Is there a silicone spray available for this application? Years ago I recall canvas for trucks and railway goods wagons being treated with stuff like heating & applying evil mixtures of paraffin and benzine...however I doubt the people who did this work are around anymore to tell of their experiences... I need to treat the canvas roof of my Landrover as I am tired of water dripping down my back in when it rains as well as onto the dash...and the chance of water mixing with old English electrics is indeed a scary thought...;-) Also, my side mounting Kombi tent is some kind of thinner more modern canvas material that eventually also may need to be treated (hey, there's OVC after all ! ) BTW replies saying to check the archives are not necessary as I have already tried that and curiously got no matches to "canvas" and "waterproofing"...WTF? Anyway, thanks if you can offer any suggestions...
