Budd would be correct, Chris. The rear facing (removable and folding) jumpseats were first found on the 1987 Wolfsburg Edition models.

I have seen upholstery in 4 designs. All gray, I'm afraid. One design is the velour with check pattern commonly found on the 1987 GL's. Second pattern is the same material found on sides of the 87's and most of the 88-92 models -- no checkering. Third pattern is the gray tweed with red specs. Same upholstery found on Tristars and non-GL vans. These jumpseats can be found in the non-GL 90's vans, which incidentally had no folding table. The fourth type is the diagonal pattern velour found in the Carats and the Blue/White/RedStar European specials.

I'm not sure if this will count but some Oettinger built specials had leather upholstered jumpseats in various colors. They are technically not VW models so I'm not sure if they should be included here.
