Subject: Re: electrical short in 1985 Westy

Hello,If I had to have a short I would be glad that is is like yours(no shorts are best.Replacing the entire insterment cluster is very dooable, and still keep your old speedo for accuracy. The entire cluster can be traced for a short if you have the pacience. One circut at a time.Or just throw the thing away.It is interesting that the stock radio in my 85 westy will turn on with the key out of the ignition.I have left my radio on for 3 weeks and the van still started. If you have a current draw in this #9 fuse that drains the battery complete in 3 days,it must not be hard to find. The shorting offender must be hot.I think there are 8 or 9 wires in that hookup below the tach. Each wire for a certin application.I would start by checking each for current. The way that cluster is put together, a short is easy to occur.New insterment clusters are avaliable on Ebay most times
