I use JB weld to do the same thing sometimes it seems soft but when you take a file to it it turns out to be the top layer thats soft it should be workable in 12 hours less with a heat lamp

To make the JB weld stick to the block you need to use a drummel tool to clean out the pitting and ruff up the aluminum
