Nate,

There are a few differences in the wires going to the cluster. I think there are 10 or 11 wires in the plug that goes in the back of the cluster...the sequence is different in a few of them. ie, (this is not a correct example) perhaps the #8 from the 1984 goes where the #9 is for the 1986. You have to look at both wiring diagrams and figure out the differences and then you can switch the wires around in the plug. I have a file that lays this out but I haven't been able to find it yet. I'll send it to you if I find it.

I did it and it works fine.
