Hi Brian,

Good to hear you are doing a project with your son. This is something both of you will never forget.

Read more about how to use POR products. I have never used their body filler though I have used their first product. POR stands for Paint On Rust so if you clean the metal of the rust it has nothing to bond to. My question with POR is does it stop the rust in both directions? http://www.por15.com/product.asp?productid=39 I just read the instructions for POR-15 RestoGRIP Body Filler and you need to also use POR-15 Rust Preventative Paint and POR-15 Marine Clean. The body filler is applied over the rust preventative paint. I just read the instructions for the rust preventative paint and it does not seem to be for exterior surfaces like the body of a Vanagon. I do know this product will do areas like floor pans, frames, trunks, etc. But I don't think it is intended for smooth exterior surfaces. If you are serious about using POR-15, take the time to call and let them know how you plan to use their products. Hope this helps.

Tim

Folks,

My 15 year-old son and I are starting our "restoration project" " '84 Westy. There's a pretty nasty case of seam rust below the untilities holes on driver's side. Poking around the POR site - noticed they market a body filler paste. So ...

Any thoughts on using the POR paste to fill the entire seam? Site says the paste "remains flexible" so ... what about just filling the thing (after proper rust removal, neutalizer, etc) and making it a "soild" looking piece along the whole panel? How much vibration gets centered here? What's the purpose of the seam other than manfacturing?

The more I'm reading about the POR products, I'm thinking I'm just about done with fiberglass and Bondo!

Brian '84 Westy project
