The voltage regulator section of the alternator may be getting a bit old. It
is an easily removed module that usually is just held in by a couple screws,
carefully remove it and check the contacts on it.  Bus boys and bus depot
both list the regulators separately.  Note there are two different ones.

Personally I look at the price of the regulator and the age of my alternator
and then at the cost of a new unit.  Many times the cost of the regulator is
half of the cost of a new alternator but not always.
