Possible the heads were rebuilt with new guides installed. Guides were distorted when pressed and not adequately reamed out. Add some gasoline and or carbon residue or the oil got washed off the valves and they are stuck. If they stuck enough to bend the push rods, the heads need to come off.

I put a starter on my 86' 2.1 and...

I heard some strange noises spinning it over and it wont start now sounds like no compression, and then I notice the oil puddle forming under it !!! I pulled the pushrod shields and the Intake tubes are mangled : ( so I pulled the covers and rocker assembleys and all the intakes are hung open and frozen in the guides.

This is a used van I am just getting on the road so I have no engine history but the heads appear to have been done recently and it was running as smooth as you would ever see a 2.1 run. It had the normal valve noise after first starting considering it had been sitting for months but it quieted down after driving it and was doing great untill the bendix started sticking on the starter. so even If I loaded it up "bumping" the old starter and it hydro locked would it strip the timing gears? Is this something any one is familiar with? thanks in advance jeff

86' Westy weekender
