As a racer I have seen exactly what a fire extinguisher can and can't do. If you are depending on a dry chem to put out a gasoline fire in an engine, odds are you are wasting your time. I have seen 3 10ABC's dumped (correctly) on an engine gasoline fire without hardly making a dent in it. Just a word to the wise that having a small extinguisher can often give more emotional support than it can real fire suppression. Even an onboard fire system will often fail to completely extinguish a gasoline fire. But if you want to make a real try at stopping an engine fire, especially on an FI engine, this is the only real chance you'll have. Plus you do not need to open the engine bay to use it, which really helps suppress the fire more effectively.
