If your Type 2 is watercooled, spray the extinguisher into the engine
compartment from below, don't open the hatch... which then forms a
chimney to funnel the fire into the van.

If it's aircooled you can't do this, but opening the lid won't
produce a chimney as the aircooling shrouds close the compartment off
from below.
