Thankyou Bob Donalds for the correct diagnosis that the valves were indeed siezed in the guides because of fuel contamination! I removed the heads and with carb clean and a torch (not at the same time)they are now spinning freely again. The intake runners were literally filled a .5" with what looked like roofing tar! Heads are cleaned and back together valves lapped in and look great, guides are spec. Now ...back to the fuel problem I was trying to get around earlier! The lesson here is when you get a van that has been sitting. Do some preventitive service. I actually drove this thing around for a while before this happened! Now I will clean the tank ,change the brake fluid ,and the rest of the fluids too! I am glad I did not fly across the country and think I would drive this thing back or I would be doing all this on the side of the road! lessons learned jeff Atl,Ga. 87' westy weekender |
