Pascal, the best way to approach this problem is to leave the glue in place. Do not attempt to remove it. Paint the surface rather than trying to glue new vinyl in place. Take a piece of the old vinyl to your Home Hardware or Home Depot and have them make up paint to match. Use a roller not a brush to apply. The resulting finish will resemble the original so much no one will ever know. The texture of the glue reproduces the same texture in the paint as the original vinyl. I've done this many times on different vans and it works great.
