Subject: Re: e-brake cable slipping off of brake shoe

Havent heard of this one before.Have you recently done your back brakes? If so, something is amiss. If your brakes are improperly adjusted, maybe the lever wont go all the way back. This may cause slack in the cable.Cable pops off-I guess. Are the left and right brake cables both the same legnth? If not , and they are mixed up with the long one on the wrong side, maybe it will disconnect itself(once again ,slack)To adjust the parking, release the brake and back off on the adjuster nut(10mm)center nut under the van.Adjust each wheel first with the star adjuster through the opening hole on the backing plate. When you can just feel drag when spinning the wheel, you have adjustment.Next, pull up on the parking brake handle. If it goes up all the way without holding the drums, begin adjusting the 10mm nut.Turn the nut till you get about 3 or 4 clicks before the drums are gripped. If you havent recently done your brakes, consider that the lever that the cable attached to is dragging.Lube a dab of grease on this hinge. If your brakes are dragging, lube the 4 bosses where they ride on the backing plate(easier said than done).Check for major grooves cut into the backing plate by the shoes, causing the shoes to stick in the expanded position. If your shoes go "clunk" each time that you apply the brakes, you probably have grooves.Make sure that the cables remain in the hole in the backing plate, and are not comming out.Cant think of any other possiabilities, but ofcoarse there most likely are some.Roger
