Hmm, avoiding Texas might be hard. Go to Austin, it's a cool town. Stop in Phoenix and visit Karl Wolz and in Tucson to visit Larry Chase. Actually, get them to meet each other while you're at it! It's too late in the year for that crazy town in western Arizona - Quartzsite. The snow bird capital of the world.

Definitely stop at Hot Wells Dune in south east Arizona, and hang out for a few days talking to the other folks passing through. Especially if you like hot springs. Though it will be warm when you're there - it was great in the cold.

I liked coastal Louisiana - very quiet and watery. You have to like water, though.

El Capitan, in Texas - amazing landscape. That's a national park in south west Texas. Definitely not flat, Matilda chugged pretty slowly up those hills.

Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico is pretty interesting.

I went tearing through Alabama and Georgia and the Florida panhandle - I can't make recommendations there. But I'm sure others can!

Joy
