James, when I had myu 2.1L rebuilt, at the 500 mile mark I changed oil and filter, then again at 1000 miles. After that regular oil changes.

Be sure you have a Mann or Mahle filter installed, and I recommend going to 15W50 Mobil One Synthetic rather than 20W50 Dino oil. It costs a bit more, but I beleive onver the life of thengine you will be ahead of the game in terms of wear and tear. I had about 40,000 on my engine when I finally made the switch, and when I did, the oil consumption dropped by half. I wish I had switched to Mobil One right after break-in. These new synthetic oils handle heat better than Dino oil.
