I don't think it matters where the timing is as long as the piston is at the top of its stroke and both valves are fully off the cam, which you can determine with a straw in each spark plug hole. Just pick a cylinder and turn until the top conditions are met, then adjust, and move on to the next cylinder of your choice. Don't worry about firing order.
