Steve, I have experienced the same thing on my '84. Let's assume that your
plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor and timing are correct. When
load is placed on the engine, digital idle stabilizer should advance timing
to keep engine RPMs around 900. If that unit is bad, you can bypass it and
see if same thing happens.
Next, the stalling may be from poor contacts in the big connector between
the FI cable and the ECU. These contacts need to be squeaky clean if the
ECU is to get the correct signals and do its thing.
