I cleaned and adjusted the one on my '84 back in '94 and it's still working fine. I replaced the little light bulbs and the strip that covers the slot while I was in there. I used an Allen wrench to remove the "T" handle ... lifted the carpet around the shifter housing just enough to remove the 4 screws that hold it down and raised the housing off the shifter. Just remember that there are wires with push on connectors therein. You probably wouldn't have to remove it completely to do what you have to do ... but remember I replaced the cover strip, too. Mike
