Sounds like you need a Wolfsburg Edition or non-GL Camper model.

I did look into several Westy's but found the arrangement inside to be a bit confining for my personal tastes, especially the bed aspect of the rear seat. I much prefer the full width of the van for bedding if I wish. In my camping it was limited to more moderate temperatures - no sub-zero stuff or snow camping. I found the lack of a popup top to be a rel shortcoming for the GL. That to me would be the bigest factor in choosing something other than a GL. I was on a fishing trip, the weather got really rainy and blustery, and it would have really been nice to hae been able to stand up for periods of time, without haveing to get out of the van.

I can do without all the camper goodies inside a Westy, but that pop-up top makes a huge difference for me.

I prefer the greater general utility of the GL over the Westy, but as a specialty vehicle for camping generally, the Westy configuration will be hard to beat. If I were to build a camper from a Syncro, I don't think I would hang a wall cabinet back in the bed area.

Good luck in your endeavor.
