Subject: Flushing the Coolant System
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

In the next week or two I will be removing my engine. I'm going to take the opportunity to flush the cooling system at the same time.

I've read through the archives and have found basically three methods of flushing:

1) Drain the radiator repeatedly 2) Add an aftermarket tee somewhere in one of the heater loops 3) Disconnect heater & rad hoses and backflush

I'm leaning toward either #2 with no thermostat or #3. #1 sounds like a lot of work, and #2 with a thermostat won't clean the whole cooling system.

Any comments/suggestions?
