I've got the same problem at time in my '91 GL, with a rebuilt tranny. I think it's a valve sticking in the valve body.

Something to learn to live with unless you know of a REPUTABLE rebuilder. The place I took mine took four tries to get it right, and it still is sluggish when cold, and shifts funky at times.
