VW Solar Battery Charger. Works on any car. - $25 Date: 2005-04-15, 12:34PM PDT

In Jan 04 my wife bought a 2004 beetle convertible and the sales guy thru one of these in for me for my 1983.5 Westy for free. I have had my Westy for about 4 years now and never had any problems with the battery even though it is probably over 10 years old. Since it battery was older I figured it would be a good idea to hook up the charger while the van was not being used during the winter. When I went to start the car the next spring the battery was completely dead. This last winter I did not use the charger and the battery started the van right up just like it had been running all winter. Granted this is not a very scientific test, but to me these chargers are completely worthless even if you get it for free.
