...the problem with the headlights was that one of the ground wires came off the 2 quarter sized "ground post terminal blocks" up behind the fuse box. The ground wire that came off must be quite significant to the headlight system.

I guess I knocked it loose fishing a new speaker wire to the drivers side door.... Dennis gets a gold star for knowing the exact solution to the problem!
