I notice the backlight is on all the time when the unit is on 12v. Pretty good idea. I wonder if I put batteries in it if it would only show the backlight when it has external 12v? Anyone?

-----------------------

the backlight only works under 12 volt power. i had hoped for more from this unit and i am a bit disappointed. the tilt of the read out lets light shine right into the display making it hard to read. my old unit has a reset button that i really like this one does not. back to the store it shall go.
