I put the unit in a shadowed area and find the display to be pretty good. Seems like even when I had tested it out on the sunny vanagon dash it was still pretty readable. Maybe your batteries are low? might also explain why the light button doesn't work. Also, it does reset itself everyday at midnight. I set mine so midnight comes at noon. Just seems more useful to have it reset at noon every day. Edward
