If you put diesel in a HMMWV that has been run on JP8 (or vice versa) it will quickly clog the filters with some type of goop that is created by mixing the fuels and the vehicle will not run until it is all cleaned out of the system. They CAN use diesel, but they DON'T use diesel. During Desert Storm, in 1991, we ran the vast majority of them on Jet A, which is so devoid of lubricants that we had to mix oil with it to preserve the injection pumps.
