Valve adjustment is fine. The whole idea of hydraulic lifters is to take out critical adjustment. If lifters keep clacking, you have a valve sticking in the guide or a bad lifter or they are not getting oil flow. As for the temp 2 sensor, they rarely go bad but the connection at the plug, the ground connections, including the one in the FI harness is frequently an issue. As for the NGK O2 sensor, I find they are often weak or slow to respond and the Vanagon does not like it. Even Bosch, I find 1 or 2 out of 4 are no good. Also, the NGK is the wrong diameter to accept the clip on deflector shield. The shield keeps air from cooling the sensor off and road spray from fouling it. Well..... New heads are at 1 3/4 turn IN wile those lifter calm down and the new valves seat well...now back to 1 turn...but they are NEW heads... Temp2 is new like everything else....but a bad ground wire or a bad Temp2 sender connection is possible...even a faulty temp2 sender is a possible cause. About the fuel smoke, at start up ONLY, gone after 2 minutes...that is one problem, the second problem is some stange behavior at normal speed, like lost of power, surge...bucking....but when the O2 is unplug, everything is back to normal!!!! The O2 is nor OEM and his a cheaper one.... i think it's made by NGK.... I agree, the O2 is not responsible for the fuel surge at start up...but it's a Vanagon, you never know. I will have the van back tomorrow and...find the problem...like i always do, i will keep you up to date. It is quite normal to to have a few glitch when you put engine in pieces like i do. Thanks for you're comments, i do appreciate.... Regards, Ben http://www.benplace.com/vanagon_engine6.htm Dennis Haynes wrote: >Temp 2 sensor, ignition or valve problem?
