If it only whines in first or second, than most likely there is a bad
main shaft bearing or the main roller bearing is loose in the gear
carrier housing. The housing will need to be machined or replaced. This
is a common problem. This housing is readily available (for a price) due
to the frequent failure.

Subject: tranny issue

I just got my new motor and rebuilt tranny from a reputable builder
running for the first time today. I took the van for a ride around the
block. When I let off the gas in first or second and decel in gear,the
tranny whines. I push in the clutch or step on the gas the noise goess
away. Any suggestions other that the tranny? I know once I get in touch
with the tranny rebuilder,if its the tranny he will make good.  Just
looking for suggestions...
