Hi,

I finally fixed my 1991 GL - it was idling fast, and stalling when hot. Could not be restarted hot.

The problem was a broken wire. There's two grey wires connected together, and another grey wire that plugs into the pair. This is next to a pair of green wires with yellow connectors. Both sets of wires are just above the air bleed screw on the coolant piping at the left front of the engine compartment.

The Bentley manual shows the green wires with the yellow connector to be part of the idle stabilizer system. I have not found where the grey wires are going.

I had found one grey wire on either side of the connectors to be corroded and not making good contact, so I cut the connectors off and replaced them with new crimp-on terminals. Unfortunately, the third grey wire was broken off the connector and hiding behind the cable harness, and I missed it.

Once I connected that wire to the other two, the idle came down and the van no longer has a problem starting (or running!) when hot.

Thanks to everyone who had suggestions. Maybe this is the cause of other problems out there - make sure all your wires are connected!
