I have both. '82 1.9 NA Diesel Westfalia and an '83.5 1.9 Wasserboxer.

The Wasserleaker's parked.

As Jonathan pointed out, the cost of fuel is not the only consideration. The wasserboxer get 19 mpg (US) in a good day. 15 mpg around town. The diesel delivers 28 mpg month after month.. So... were gasoline $2.00/gal and diesel $3.00/gal, it would then become time to think about parking the Westy.

My fuel expense on the Westy @ $2.639/gal is $.095/mile.

If the fuel situation REALLY gets weird, there's three Chinese restaurants and half a dozen fast food joint in town. With gasoline, I don't have that option.
