Subject: Repairing Window Washer Reservoir Tank
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

On my '83 Vanagon, the plastic tabs on the side of my window washer fluid tank (that hold the tank to the body) are cracked and one has completely broken off. I've still got all the pieces so I thought I'd glue it back together and put in some additional reinforcement using a product I got a my local hardware store: Devcon Plastic Welder ($3.95). In bold print on the front of the package it states that it's suitable for hard plastics, but in the fine print on the back it states that it will not bond with polyethylene or polypropylene.

Questions:

Does anyone know what material the tank is made of?

Or, does anyone know that this product will or will not work?

Anyone else solved this problem short of buying a brand new tank?

Should I not be such a cheapskate and spring for a new tank?

By the way, new tanks (part# 251955453D) are:

Bus Depot (before discount) $51.22

Volks Cafe $56.15

VW Dealer: $68.00
