Well the Westy was pretty amazing. After having driven many westies from the sixties, seventies and eighties this was my first from the nineties. It had an a.t., power locks and windows, a.c., a factory rebuild with less than 20k, flawless interior, cruise, hmmm and surely some other nice stuff. It ran and drove just like a van with a new engine and 80k on the drive train should. After a pretty full inspection I found traces of a minor oil leak (dirt/dust buildup on bottom of engine) some scratches concentrated in between the gas cap and sliding door (fender mount??) a small dent in the rear drivers side quarter panel, a missing front table and a non-working a.c. Although I didn't perform a compression test I did listen for rods knocking, valve train noise etc. My impression is that the van is in nearly perfect order. I suggested to my friend that he attempt to purchase for less than 13,000 if possible but the seller didn't budge. Apparently gowesty has made an offer of 15,000 to the seller who only wants to sell locally in order to avoid the hassle of shipping the westy out west. I got to spend some time talking to the original owner. He bought this westy when he was 77 years old after owning some earlier models. He babied the westy and had a lot of help from a good friend of his who's career was as a vw mechanic until he retired a year or so ago...

Any thoughts?? Anyone looking for a cream puff? My buddy might make another bid, but after that I would love to pass on the contact info (in case you guys haven't found a listing for this westy already).

Later,

Jonathan Poole
